| Care and Cleaning of your Picture Frame
Wood-finish frames may be cleaned periodically with a gentle furniture-dusting product (i.e., Endust) applied to a soft, clean cloth. NEVER SPRAY DIRECTLY ONTO THE FRAME!!!! Gold or silver-finish frames should be dusted with a soft dry cloth. Use of abrasive or alcohol-based cleaners may result in the corrosion of the finish of the frame and is not recommended.
Mica or Lacquer-finish frames may be cleaned with a glass cleaner applied to a clean, soft cloth. Always apply the cleaner to the cloth. Again, never on the frame directly. When cleaning the glass, NEVER SPRAY THE ARTWORK DIRECTLY!!!! Liquid cleaner may run behind the glass, or inside the frame and eventually add harmful moisture, as well as possibly staining the mattes and/or artwork. Use a quality plastic cleaner and a very soft cloth for plexiglass, do not use cleaners with ammonia. Plexiglass is used on all works over 30"x40" to protect the artwork in shipping. You may also be able to determine this by the weight of the framed piece, or by the sound of tapping on the plexiglass, versus the sound of tapping on a work framed with glass.
